RJA #13c: Application Project Example

http://history1900s.about.com/cs/storiesfromwwii/

This is a site that had journal entries from soliders that fought in arious battles and this is the sort of thing that I was looking for. Something that could make you feel for where they are at but I wanted to add something about where they were before the battles began and how they are being affected in their own personal lives. This site is also ery good becuase it gives a variety of soldiers journals to look at so it gives the sides of the scared, the brave, the people in the battles etc. whic gives me the variety to make the best journal entries possible.

RJA #13b: Application Project Plan

Since because my paper is about a certain length of time the news article is something that would be a little hard so I chose to do the journal entries because I believe the paper is more of a personal kind of a paper rather than information based. It will be about about a few journal entries about people who were sent to war and how they felt about the war and how their lives had changed. The people will come from a different place: monetarily and socially to give more depth to the entries. It is something taht will be difficult to make even but from everything I have learned I feel like this is the best possible choice.

RJA #10c: Ideas for the Application Project

1. Journal Entry

I would my journal entry to my Uncle Rex because he lived through the Great Depression and was on the front lines of the invasions of Africa, Italy and the heart of Germany. He lived through some of our poorest times as a country and some of our highest times so he definately has an idea of what he believes is what is right and wrong. I would tell him what the statistics were according to every economic source I found, I would also let him know of all the things that were going on at home while he was off at war with all of the technological and industrial advances or withdrawls that were occurring.

2. Short Story

I would write this about an two individuals who came home and how their lives were affected positively or negatively during the war. Like one person left who was rich and owned a small business but came back and lost his business becuase machines were developed to mass produce he singularly made. The other man went into the war poor and on a downward spiral until he met someone in the war who gave him inspiration then he came home and went to school and joined a business that was helping create the machines.

3. News Article

This one be a little difficult because of the length of the time period I am doing. I could still pick out a singel day where we lost many men and there was a ship that was blown up carrying many imports/exports and on another article wrote about how we were supplying the war with war materials.

4. Editorial

In this editorial I would focus on the pros and cons of the technoligical aspect of what was advancing and standing still during a particular time in the wartime. Stating how some companies were able to advance becuase of the mass production of materials but how smaller companies were struggling to advance becuase of either their workers leaving for war or a lack of economical resources for them to buy goods needed to become larger in their individual field.

RJA #10b: Progress Report for Argumentative Paper

What I have accomplished

I have finished one of my interviews have found a lot of information that I have put into categories that I feel like will help me be able to easily tranistion them on to a piece of paper rather than jsut attacking it straight up.

What I need to Do

I still have an interview that I really want to get that would be an incredibly interesting take on the wars from a point of view that has seen the Great Depression World War II and nearly every big event in America since then. I also need to begin writing my paper so I can really see how well I am putting my paper together and what I need to work on.

RJA #10a: Annotated Bibliography, Part 1

Blaine Underberg Pvt. 1st Class U.S. Army

I interviewed a friend of mine from High School who I was not exactly very close with. He went into the army around 8 and a half months ago and he was stationed in Kuwait. I wanted to ask him about how he felt beofre and after he entered the army. Blaine did not enter the army after High School becase thats what he wanted or because someone in his family was in the army but because he was ordered by the courts to either spend time in the army or a year in jail. He had a nice job in wyoming before but he still said the mistake he made to go to jail might have been a blessing in disguise. Not only did he stay out of jail but he also said he changed a lifestyle that was taking him the wrong way. Which was a revelation for me on a part of my paper because I am not debating whether it is good to be in the army or not but is war something that is good or bad for the economy. This was a situation that saved the government money on sending another person to jail for an extended amount of time and maybe it could have become worse so in this case I believe that it was not only great for him but something that made him into a better person who said he even feels like going back to school and building a future for himself.

Vangiezen, Robert and Schwenk, Albert E. "Compensation from before World War I through the Great Depression" Bureau of Labor Staatistics. 30 January 2003. Web

The time leading up to World War II America had already been a part of more ups and downs that most people thing. There were many small recessions in the early part of the century that are are majorly looked over becasue of the Great Depression. This article is talking about all those times and how the economy began to boom before the stock market collapse then the rise of the economy back up after World War II began and ended. As the article went on there was a great graph on the unemployment rate before the war to 1942 and how the rate rose steadily peaked then dropped drastically in 1939. The Union memebership rates also began to rise drastically thanks to the new deal that was instituted. This article albeit just for one war it shows great detail in the economic side of the wartime.

http://vietnamwar3.tripod.com/id1.html 2006. Web.

This site is a general facts article about Vietnam but when I began to read deeper I found a lot of information about what imports and exports were being effected or created becuase of the war. Just becuase trades were becoming more accesible does not mean that was something was good becuase we lost a lot of our imports from people we were fighting against and their allies. It had a lot of information on the war itself which is not very helpful discussion but in this instance it was very relevant. Also this talked about the effects the war and location of the war had on our soldiers. This is not necessairly a site that I will use much for my paper but it was definately one that I enjoyed breaking down becuase it had all the elements to make it a difficult article to look at.
