RJA #8a: Quotation, Paraphrase, and Summary

"The Vietnam War had several effects on the U.S. economy. The requirements of the war effort strained the nation's production capacities, leading to imbalances in the industrial sector. Factories that would have been producing consumer goods were being used to make items from the military, causing controversy over the government's handling of economic policy. In addition, the government's military spending caused several problems for the American economy."

The Vietnam War had multiple consequences on the U.S. financial system. The obligations of the war stuggle labored the nation's manufacturing capabilities, leading to inequity in the commerce district. Industrial units that would have been manufacturing buyer commodities were being used to yield objects from the armed forces, resulting in disagreement over the government's conduct of financial procedure. In addition, the government's armed forces expenses caused multiple tribulations for the American economy.

During the Vietnam war normal manufactures had to stop producing normal goods to produce goods for the military leading to a shortage of certain supplies. Also the government was spending too much money on the war leading to discrepencies in the American economy at the time.

Field Research Options

Museums

I got the idea after looking at Thomas's blog but I really like it considering I could try and to find an expert or someone who contributes a lot to the museum to see if could have a word or a full interview. I think it would be a very interesting way to get an interview and have a more personal way to to get into my topic especially if there are a lot of people willing to help me out.

Polls

This one interestes me becuase if I conducted a poll asking people if War is good everyone knows what the answer would be but if I put in is War good outside of the death and carnage? I think it would be intersting to see if people's answers might change a little becuase they think War economies do help econmies that are in trouble.

My third one wasn't coming very easy to me becuase I am really hoping that I can knock two of these out with the museums, becuase I am hoping if no one is there to help me on an interview they can give me a source that would be helpful for an interview.

Military Conflicts in U.S. History

This website at first semmed like a dead end that could barely help me at all until I dove a little deeper. On the surface it appeared to be only a timeline of all major battles the United States has ever been a part of which is nice to give me a sense of the times of the wars I am looking in too but they were much more. First, I went to World War II then I clicked on the part of the timeline it was on and what came up mad ethe site one to bookmark immediately. It not only went into what the war was about but military expenditures, what the army was producing which has a lot to do with the economy during the time and a lot of other things as well. It had this for every War that America has been in so it will be something I will be looking into more and more.

Book

Depression, War and the Cold War

Copyright by the Independent Institute in 2006

Books have been something I have been searching very extensively and no matter what search I do or how many books I see the book that always shows up is this one. It has everything that I need the only major thing that limits this source is my topic is an economic view and the book is over a much larger aspect of the Wars. Not to say that it doesn't have any economic factors becuase I found a lot of them just with the brief overview of the book that I have seen so far without reading a whole lot of it. Books have been an area of weakness along with articles but this is definately one that I will be looking forward to read.

A revealing window on the U.S. economy in depression and war: hours worked, 1929-1950

This article, another great reference by Robert Higgs, starts before World War II but for my topic it is great because it talks about the national economy extensively through the War. It includes the National GDP, Gross GDP, unemployment and most of all military expenditures. This article wil be one of the most important pieces of my paper during World War II becuase of the extensive stats that are produced. Also it goes into deep detail about wages and hours worked and the differences of the two during Wartime and peacetime. Which is something that is very important becuase of the rate of unemployment before the War and how much it changed when the United States entered the War.

Website
Effects of World War II
http://www2.sunysuffolk.edu/westn/effectww2.html

This again is about World War II but the part that stuck out to me for this particular assignment was how this had more that jsut the generic things I am looking for. This site has what happened around the rest of the World as well jsut so I could have comparisons and it also has what advancements were made in science and technology. Which were very large parts of the economy before and after becuase any industrial avancement is usually very prolific in the econommic areas becuase any less time needed for production means more money, etc. The website does not have a lot of information which is a downside but it has a lot of points which will help me if I become stuck in my research and need soemthing to look at to give me a litttle boost.
